America’s Got Talent will not be airing a new episode of Season 20 this week. However, fans of the show shouldn’t be too disappointed, because there will be a Got Talent special airing in its place, celebrating past Golden Buzzers.

AGT Isn’t New This Week — What’s Taking Its Place?

This past Tuesday, AGT aired the seventh episode of auditions for Season 20, with two acts earning the Golden Buzzer — singer Jessica Sanchez and music group The BoykinZ. Fans will have to wait a little longer to see the next audition episode on Tuesday, July 29.

This week, on Tuesday, July 22, at 8/7c, NBC will instead be airing a two-hour special titled “Greatest Golden Buzzers!” Presumably, this will be a compilation show, or perhaps even a countdown, remembering some of the best acts to earn the Golden Buzzer over the years.

This isn’t the first time AGT has aired a special like this. In 2022, an episode titled “Simon’s Favorite Golden Buzzers” aired. Judge Simon Cowell sat down with host Terry Crews to count down his favorite Golden Buzzers from the show, with the late singer Nightbirde taking the top spot.

What Will the Rest of the Season Look Like?

It’s not clear exactly why AGT isn’t new this week, but it might have something to do with padding the schedule ahead of the Season 20 live shows, which are set to kick off on Tuesday, August 19 — with a results show the next day after America votes.

Years ago, the show would have a round following auditions called Judge Cuts, in which the judges would narrow down the acts they voted “yes” to sending through by watching more performances. For the past several years, that in-between round hasn’t been quite as involved. Instead, most of the acts do not perform again before the panel decides if they should go to the live shows.

We’ll have to wait and see what the judges’ deliberations will look like this season. In the meantime, mark your calendars for the eighth week of auditions, airing July 29 at 8/7c on NBC.
