Kanye West is known for being outspoken and not holding back from saying what’s on his mind. Fans were a bit confused as to why the rapper had not spoken publicly about the murder of George Floyd at the hands of police officer Derek Chauvin. Now, it has finally been revealed that he has been making some huge donations to support the families of victims of police brutality.

Kanye West Set Up A College Fund For George Floyd’s Daughter

West set up a 529 education plan for Gianna, Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter. This will fully cover all costs when she goes to college in the future. This donation comes after protests took place not only countrywide but globally to demand justice for the black community. Since then, each of the three officers involved in the case has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder. Chauvin is charged with third-degree murder. A lot of celebrities have been so outright in speaking out about racism and Floyd’s death, some even joining protests. It’s good to see that West is also doing his part.

As for Gianna, she was seen on video saying that her dad changed the world.

She went around Minneapolis, the scene of the incident on the shoulders of Stephen Jackson. The former NBA player was a lifelong friend of Floyd’s. He has been very vocal about seeking justice and equality for the black community.

Kanye Also Covered Legal Costs For Other Victims Families

The rapper has made separate $2 million of donations to help cover the costs for the families that had to hire legal teams in the cases of Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery. All three who had their lives taken at the hands of police officers or white men. Taylor, an emergency medical technician, was asleep when three police officers arrived at her apartment to search it for drugs. Her boyfriend Kenneth Walker, a registered gun owner fired one shot at the officers who did not knock on the door before barging in. This sparked 20 shots fired at the hands of police, eight of which struck and killed Taylor. The officers were never charged in her case, sparking recent protests in her hometown of Louisville.

In the case of Arbery, he was jogging when father and son Gregory and Travis McMichael shot and killed him after claiming that they mistook him for a robber. After the shooting, the two were finally brought up on murder and aggravated assault charges after global outrage sparked when they were not initially arrested. It was recently reported that a racial slur was shouted at Arbery before he was shot. William Bryan, the man who filmed Arbery’s murder in a video that went viral was also charged with felony murder.
