Adam Lambert is returning to the talent show world with the new E! series, Clash of the Cover Bands. After skyrocketing to fame on Season 8 of American Idol, Lambert is more than qualified to find the next big musical talent. He described one huge connection that Clash of the Cover Bands has with American Idol and it will definitely bring you some major nostalgia.
‘Clash of the Cover Bands‘ Makes Lambert Nostalgic for ‘American Idol’
Clash of the Cover Bands will put some of the best cover artists in the world head to head for a huge prize. The acts are all vying for $25,000 and the chance to perform on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. This competition sounds all too familiar for Lambert who is now the lead singer of the Queen revival band. He joins Meghan Trainor and Ester Dean on the Clash of the Cover Bands judging panel.
“It was so crazy because we filmed this show on the same exact stage and studio as American Idol,” Lambert said. “So walking backstage into the studio every day was just so surreal. That was what, 12 years ago? That’s where everything started for me.”
Lambert’s career has been nothing short of amazing since stepping onto the American Idol stage in 2009. The Grammy nominee put out his most recent album, Velvet, in 2020. He has toured the world with Queen, started his own charity, and proven to be a vocal powerhouse with hits like “Whataya Want from Me” and “If I Had You.”
“That was very cool. I enjoyed that full circle,” Lambert added about returning to the set. “And it made me keep in mind that when you get up on stage and you perform and you give it your all and you’re putting yourself out there to be commented on by three people at a desk in front of you, it’s not always the easiest thing.”
Lambert Uses What He Learned on ‘Idol’ When Judging Contestants
When Lambert was on American Idol, Simon Cowell lobbied for viewers to vote him through to the finale. Cowell continued to voice his support on talk shows for Lambert to win the show. It is so rare for Cowell to fully back a contestant on a talent show. He knew Lambert had that special star quality that he is always searching for. This has taught Lambert so much about being a judge on Clash of the Cover Bands.
“It’s tricky and it takes a lot of bravery,” Lambert said. “I definitely kept all that in mind when I was talking to the different performers and tried to be constructive and yet sensitive to the journey. I think everything was really a good sport.”
October is a huge month for Lambert as Clash of the Cover Bands premieres tonight at 9:30 p.m. ET on the E! Lambert will be performing at the Venetian in Las Vegas with a five-show limited engagement starting next week. He also announced that he will host a special livestream event on Friday, Oct. 29. Tickets are currently available.
