John Legend Will Be a Coach on Season 16 of ‘The Voice’

Season 16 of The Voice just got a little more exciting! It was announced today that John Legend will be joining The Voice family! Alongside Adam, Blake, and Kelly, John will be coaching up-and-coming artists this spring. John has appeared on the show both as a guest and a mentor a number of times, but now he will be taking one of the coveted red chairs!

John Legend seems like a perfect fit for this. Fresh off his Emmy win, which completed his EGOT, making him the first African-American man to do so, John has quite the resume. In addition to the ten Grammy Awards he’s won, he won an Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for co-writing the song “Glory” for the film Selma, a Tony Award for co-producing Jitney, and an Emmy Award for producing the NBC adaptation of Jesus Christ Superstar. He is best known for his hits from “Ordinary People” to “All Of Me” to “Love You Now.”

Initial response to the announcement has been overwhelmingly positive. Everyone seems to be really happy with his addition to the coaching panel! It’s hard to argue that he’s qualified for the job. Plus, he has an amazing personality so he should be fun to watch. If you don’t already follow his banter with wife Chrissy Teigen online, it’s time to study up. He’ll bring an awesome energy and crazy talent to the coaching chairs. And I can imagine that he will be a hot commodity when it comes to four-chair turns!
Even past contestants are weighing in!The Voice and The Four alum Ali Caldwell commented:
“Ahhhh! Wish I was there! Lucky new season”
And last season’s winner, Brynn Cartelli, just said “WOW” with fellow Season 14 contestant Drew Cole responding, “this changes everything.” Brynn followed that up by saying:
“It does. I always say if I were @chrissyteigen I would make him sing to me every day”
They’re all not wrong either! I would honestly do the same, Brynn. But this is a huge win for the show! John Legend is someone who is universally liked and multi-talented.
