Some fans of The Voice have noticed chemistry between two of the show’s coaches this season. Viewers have started shipping veteran coach Kelly Clarkson with newcomer Riley Green, although there’s nothing to indicate the two are actually dating.
Season 30 of The Voicepremiered last month, as Kelly Clarkson returned for another season as coach, alongside newbie Riley Green. The pair has developed a fun rapport during the Blind Auditions, as they playfully compete to get artists to join their teams.
Clarkson has bemoaned the country star’s appeal to the auditioning artists, at one point joking, ““I don’t know if it’s the Tom Selleck mustache or the Marlboro Man vibe, but I’m over it already.” In another silly moment, Clarkson even wore Green’s cowboy hat.
Fans have noticed this back-and-forth, and some have started shipping the pair. As one person reportedly wrote on social media, “Watching The Voice for the plot, the plot being Kelly Clarkson and Riley Green.” Another fan wrote on X, “I’m sensing chemistry between Riley and Kelly.”
Even the official The Voice Instagram account has gotten in on the fun, responding to a fan’s comment that the coaches would “be cute af together” with a video clip of the pair’s behind-the-scenes banter.
Although Clarkson and Green hadn’t met in person before they started coaching on The Voice together, Clarkson was already a fan of Green’s music before the show. Last year, she covered one of his songs on her talk show.
During the Kellyoke segment on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the singer performed a soulful rendition of Green’s song “Worst Way.” Clarkson also had positive things to say about Green after the performance, telling fans, “I love him. I dig him. You should check him out.”
