Diddy Says ‘The Four’ is Like “a Vocal Game of Thrones”

Diddy recently gave an interview to the Breakfast Club on New York’s radio station Power 105.1. It was the first time Diddy had spoken so much about The Four: Battle for Stardom while the series is airing.

Reading Time: 2 minutes

When DJ Envy asked Diddy to explain the show, he replied:

It’s like a vocal Game of Thrones. The chairs are thrones. There’s royalty, kings and queens, in those four thrones. A challenger from another “realm” gets to come on and call them out.

He referred to the challenges as “real combative, like a rap battle.” I’m not sure that’s true, except for Jefferson Clay’s spat with Jason Warrior. “It’s intense. It’s like a coliseum. So our audience is totally different” from others.

What about the show’s odd — some say confusing — format?

We start where all the other shows finish. We pick the Four, then you could be at home and send in your audition, and challenge somebody. It’s not the regular format; the genres are thoroughly disrupted. It just feels more like us, more like the culture.

Diddy was asked why he agreed to serve as a judge on the show.

If I stay out of music too long, I lose my energy. If I stay away from coaching and teaching people, I feel like the business is taking too much. This is the opportunity to go back to my roots. To help people be the greatest they can be.

Asked what the winners of The Four get, Diddy said, “You get a deal with Republic Records, you get the support of iHeartRadio, and you get us,” meaning the mentorship of the judges.

Unfortunately, Diddy didn’t say anything about wearing sunglasses on the show or his signature “Eat!” chant.

You can watch the entire interview here.
