Why Charlie Sheen Dropped Out Of DWTS
Reading Time: 2 minutes
Dancing With the Stars promised a cast full of bigger names than in the past for Season 28. While it didn’t quite live up to the hype, it doesn’t seem to be for a lack of trying. It turns out we were this close to seeing Charlie Sheen tear up the ballroom floor!
Charlie Sheen Was Supposed To Be On ‘DWTS’
Us Weekly revealed Sheen’s almost-participation in the show this morning and how he would have danced with longtime pro Cheryl Burke, as well as that ABC even made an effort to sweeten the deal by throwing in an agreement for him to star in a TV pilot developed by the network for Dancing With The Stars
So, with a deal like that, why did Sheen drop out? “I was very flattered by ABC and their offer, but at the end of the day, I have two left feet and I just can’t dance,” he explained to Us Weekly. (Well, that certainly hasn’t stopped plenty of other celebrities from signing on!)
As for whether or not the ABC TV pilot will still move ahead, Sheen’s publicist Jeff Ballard confirmed that “it was contingent upon his participation on Dancing With the Stars” and therefore will not be put into production since he decided not to do the show after all.
Charlie Sheen Can’t Dance To Save His Life
Charlie Sheen definitely would have given the show a fair amount of extra buzz given his highly-publicized past with drug addiction, openness about living with HIV, and relative status as a “big name” compared to the majority of the Season 28 cast. But what really jumps out here is the pilot deal that ABC was willing to give him. Could there be similar agreements between the network and other cast members? We’ll be keeping a close eye out to see if any of the other stars suddenly pop up in other ABC projects.
Dancing With the Stars airs Mondays at 8/7 c on ABC.
