Former One Direction star Niall Horan recently paid tribute to his late bandmate Liam Payne during the first concert on his new tour. Horan played a recording of Payne’s voice after performing his song “End of an Era.”
Niall Horan Pays Tribute to Liam Payne on Tour
On Tuesday, Niall Horan kicked off his Dinner Party: Live on Tour with a concert in Birmingham in the UK. During the show, he performed the track “End of an Era” off his most recent album Dinner Party. Horan has called the song a tribute to his late One Direction bandmate Liam Payne.
At the end of Horan’s performance of the song on Tuesday, audio was played of Payne talking about One Direction’s success as a group, saying, “We thought something might happen, but never anything like this. I’m always trying to remind myself of where I come from and where I’ve managed to get to in my life. It’s amazing, really.”
In a social media video from the show, Horan can be seen standing with his guitar as the lights are dimmed, listening to the recording of Payne before the stage goes completely dark and the audience cheers.
Liam Payne tragically passed away on October 16, 2024, at the age of 31, after falling from a third-floor balcony at a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The singer had struggled with substance abuse prior to his death.

The video of Niall Horan’s tribute to Liam Payne has received over 30,000 likes on X (formerly Twitter) as of this writing, and several fans also shared their thoughts on the gesture in the post’s comments.
“Love that him and [fellow One Direction star Louis Tomlinson] still find ways to honour him whenever they get the chance,” one fan wrote of Horan, while another commented, “oh great and I’m crying! if he does this every show and I hear liam’s voice over the speakers you’re gonna have to scrap [sic] me up off that floor.”
