Kelly Clarkson recently marked the 24th anniversary of her win on American Idol with a sweet Instagram post. Clarkson was the very first winner of the singing competition, being crowned in the 2002 season finale.
Kelly Clarkson Marks 24 Years Since American Idol Win
On September 4, the date of the American Idol Season 1 finale in 2002, singer Kelly Clarkson took to Instagram to share a photo of herself celebrating with her fellow contestants after she was named the winner.
“It’s been 24 years, y’all,” Clarkson wrote to caption the image, which shows her smiling as confetti rains down around her. She added a sweet message to her fans reading, “Thank you for changing my life!”
Clarkson’s post has received over 200,000 likes as of this writing. The official American Idol Instagram account responded to the singer, writing, “We love ya, you legend!” Fans in the comments also expressed their love for the inaugural Idol winner.
“I’ve been a fan since you belt that high falsetto on Natural Woman to yesterday’s Golden,” one fan wrote, referring to Clarkson’s cover during the final episode of her talk show. “Thank you for being my generation’s vocalist.”

Clarkson Is Coaching on The Voice This Season
Almost a quarter of a century after winning American Idol, Kelly Clarkson is now mentoring singers on another talent show — The Voice. Clarkson is returning as a coach for Season 30 of the show, premiering later this month.
Clarkson will sit on the panel alongside fellow returning coach Adam Levine, as well as newcomers Queen Latifah and Riley Green. The new season will premiere on NBC on Monday, September 21, at 8/7c. Episodes will also be available for fans to stream on Peacock.
