Simon Cowell’s replacement at the America’s Got Talent judges’ table for this week has been announced. Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson will fill in for Cowell as a guest judge while the music mogul is absent due to surgery.
Kenan Thompson Replaces Simon Cowell on AGT
Last week, it was announced that AGT judge Simon Cowell would have to miss some live shows for Season 21 as he undergoes surgery on his back. The most recent performance episode and subsequent results show only featured three judges at the desk.
However, this week’s live show will see SNL star Kenan Thompson joining Howie Mandel, Mel B, and Sofia Vergara as a guest judge. AGT shared the news on Instagram Friday, writing, “A comedy legend is taking over the Judges’ table! Kenan Thompson is joining AGT as a guest Judge!”
It’s not clear from the show’s post whether Thompson will also appear on Wednesday’s results show. This isn’t Thompson’s first time sitting at the judges’ table. He previously appeared in Season 15 of the show, taking Cowell’s place after the longtime judge injured his back in an electric bike accident.

This week, eleven acts will take the AGT stage for their chance to move on to the Semifinals. That includes three acts who earned the Golden Buzzer in the audition round — acrobatic dog act Acro Canine Crew, singer Isaac Atkins, and singer Lai Noelle.
Tuesday’s live episode will also feature performances by comedian Daniel Alvarez, singer Elsie, poet Guy Kelton Jones I, sword swallower Herwan Legaillard, aerial duo Holland & Sienna, magician Kameron Marshall, contortionist Maria, and musician Pynk Beard.
Each week of the Quarterfinals, a different judge has the opportunity to press the Golden Buzzer to send an act straight into the Finals. So far, Howie Mandel and Mel B have done the honors. It’s not clear yet which judge will have Golden Buzzer privileges this week.
