It’s no secret that the Got Talent stage has been the main contributor in many singers rise to fame. Among those singers is Calum Scott, who is now a household name, with over 19 million monthly listeners on Spotify. He went from auditioning for the series to support his sister to becoming one of the biggest stars in the show’s history.
Calum Scott Auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent in 2015
At 26 years old, Calum Scott took the Britain’s Got Talent stage for the first time, after watching judges reject his sister Jade. As if nerves of auditioning weren’t enough, he got to see his own family member be rejected by the series minutes before he was set to sing. Understandably so, Calum was trembling on stage.
Once he opened his mouth, his nerves dissipated, and he sang a slower version of “Dancing on My Own” by Robyn. You could hear a pin drop in the theater and judges couldn’t help but drop their jaw for Calum. After the performance concluded, Simon Cowell hit the Golden Buzzer, without giving any commentary. Calum then celebrated with his sister Jade, who truly was so proud of him.
He later returned in the live shows where he sang “We Don’t Have to Take Our Clothes Off” by Jermaine Stewart, and “Diamonds” by Rihanna. Even though Calum only placed in sixth, he has truly gone on to become a household name.
What Has He Been up to Since BGT?
After Britain’s Got Talent, Calum released his version of “Dancing on My Own” by Robyn, as well as singles “Rhythm,” and “You Are The Reason.” Even though it grew slowly at first, his first single really solidified his fame post BGT. He was able to see commercial success with each of these singles.
He later went on to release his debut album Only Human in 2016. This album was a commercial success due to his vulnerability showing between lyric lines. This album assisted in Calum coming out as gay. Even though a few friends had known before BGT of his sexuality, his family didn’t. Calum pulled from this experience to create the album.
He later would go on to release his second album, Bridges (2022), which was followed up with, Avenoir (2025). Since BGT, Calum has been on countless tours, including opening for Ed Sheeran, Pentatonix, Jason Derulo, The Script, Jamie Lawson, and Take That. He’s also embarked on four separate headlining tours since 2016.
As of writing, Calum currently has 19 million monthly listeners on Spotify, 1.8 million followers on Instagram, and 7 million subscribers on YouTube. It’s been incredible to see Calum go from a nervous 26 year old on Britain’s Got Talent to the household name he is today.
