America’s Got Talent judge Howie Mandel recently took to Instagram to share an apology to Kelly Ripa. During a recent appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark, Mandel snapped at the host over a comment she made about him looking good for his age.
Howie Mandel Posts Video Apology to Kelly Ripa
Howie Mandel was recently a guest on Live with Kelly and Mark, co-hosted by married couple Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos. During their conversation, Ripa remarked that it “doesn’t make any sense” that Mandel is 70 years old.
Mandel seemed to take issue with the implication that he looks good for his age, snapping, “I don’t like that, ’cause that’s a caveat.” Over the weekend, Mandel uploaded a video on Instagram in which he apologizes to Ripa for his reaction.
“I don’t know if I’m doing the right thing. Philosophically, I don’t believe that somebody who’s a comedian needs to apologize for a joke,” Mandel said to start. “In all my years, 50 years in the business, I haven’t ever publicly kind of apologized.”
However, the comedian went on to tell Ripa that he’s sorry, admitting that sometimes “things don’t land the way you mean them to land.” He also told Ripa, “You’re absolutely right, and I’m sorry I didn’t see it that way.”

Some Fans Think This Is Part of the Joke
Although some fans in the comments of Mandel’s apology video praised his sincerity, others thought that it was actually just part of the joke — especially considering how he ended the clip, by praising his own looks.
“After a lot of thought and self-reflection,” Mandel said, “I look great for my age. I really do. I look fantastic, and I just have to embrace the fact that I look this good.”
As one commenter wrote, “People probably aren’t going to get that this apology is also part of the joke.” Someone else responded, “I didn’t even see the show and at the end, I knew this was part of the joke.”
Former Dancing with the Stars host Tom Bergeron also chimed in to write, “That was the smoothest pivot to self-love I’ve ever seen…apart from my own morning conversations to my mirror.”
