American Idol has announced that all three of last season’s judges (Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie) will be back for Season 24 of the show, premiering next year. Auditions for the new season have also officially started.
All Three American Idol Judges to Return for Season 24
Earlier this week, the American Idol Instagram account posted the news that Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie will all be back at the judging table when the show returns for Season 24. Underwood joined the show last season, replacing longtime judge Katy Perry.
The show also announced that Season 24 Idol Across America auditions begin this week, with dates lined up through September. Hopeful singers can register now on the show’s website for a day to audition face-to-face with an Idol producer.
To promote the ongoing auditions, the three judges appeared in a back-to-school themed video clip for social media, in which they told fans, “Class is back in session, and this year, we’re majoring in music as we help launch your dreams.”

Will Ryan Seacrest Be Back?
Notably, host Ryan Seacrest was not included in this week’s American Idol Season 24 announcement. Seacrest has been the show’s host since its very first season back in 2002. Will he be back for next year’s competition?
Sources told Deadline that although Seacrest apparently hasn’t closed a deal yet for the next season, he’s expected to return to the show alongside Underwood, Bryan, and Richie.
Seacrest is definitely a busy man, as he’s also the new host of the game show Wheel of Fortune, in addition to hosting a radio show on a regular basis. However, his busy schedule has not stopped him from appearing on American Idol in the past, so hopefully he’ll be able to make it work this time around.
