‘The Masked Singer’ Group A Finals End with a Double Unmasking
Reading Time: 2 minutes
The Masked Singer Season 12 returned on Wednesday night for the Group A Finals, determining which contestant should make it through to the Quarterfinals. At the end of the night, Buffalos earned enough votes to move on, while Woodpecker and Ship had to be unmasked.
Buffalos Move on in The Masked Singer Group A Finals
The theme of Wednesday’s show was Soundtrack of My Life Night, as the remaining contestants in Group A performed songs with special meaning to them. For Buffalos, that song was The Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony,” in honor of someone they lost.
Buffalos showed off some incredible harmonies, inspiring the panel to guess that they could be B2K, Boyz II Men, or even the Black Eyed Peas. The trio earned enough votes to make it to the Battle Royale, where they went up against Ship in a performance of “Go Your Own Way” by Fleetwood Mac.
They put their own unique spin on the song, impressing the panel. It was enough to earn them a spot in the Season 12 Quarterfinals. That means we’ll have to wait a little bit longer to find out who’s under those Buffalo masks.

Who Was Unmasked This Week?
The first contestant to be unmasked on Wednesday was Woodpecker, who performed “Put Your Records On” by Corinne Bailey Rae. It was a great performance, but she didn’t earn enough votes to participate in the Battle Royale, and her identity had to be revealed right away.
Final guesses from the panel included Liza Koshy, Keke Palmer, Quinta Brunson, and Tatyana Ali. None of them were correct, as Woodpecker was unmasked as Blackish star Marsai Martin. Host Nick Cannon proudly shared that he correctly predicted it was her.
Later in the show, Ship went up against Buffalos in the Battle Royale, after wowing the panel with a cover of “Because the Night” by Patti Smith. Her performance of “Go Your Own Way” was powerful, but it wasn’t enough to earn her a spot in the Quarterfinals. The panel also chose not to save her with the “Ding Dong, Keep It On” Bell.
Final guesses from the judges included Sarah McLachlan, Alanis Morissette, and Amy Lee. However, only Jenny McCarthy correctly guessed that it was Paula Cole. She finished the episode by performing her iconic song “I Don’t Want to Wait.”
