Sofia Vergara Hits Golden Buzzer in First AGT Live Show
This season, for the first time in AGT history, the judges are allowed to hit the Golden Buzzer during the live shows to send an act straight to the Finals. On Tuesday night, Sofia Vergara did the honors for Hakuna Matata Acrobats after their incredible performance.
The acrobats, who are from Tanzania, showed off an amazing balancing act that had the audience cheering. The most impressive moment of the performance involved the group members forming a human tower while balancing on a rolla bolla.
The judges gave the group a standing ovation. Sofia Vergara called them “one of the most ambitious acts I’ve seen on AGT.” She said she didn’t think they needed any help making it through, but she still decided to hit the Golden Buzzer for them, calling them “perfection.”
“They’re so good. They’re fearless,” Vergara said in an interview after the show. “And they didn’t miss one beat. What they were doing was not easy, so I thought, ‘You know what, they deserve it.'”

Past Golden Buzzer Acts Knock It Out of the Park
Tuesday’s episode also featured performances from two acts who earned the Golden Buzzer during the audition round earlier this season. That includes Simon Cowell’s Golden Buzzer Liv Warfield, who performed a song written for her by Prince called “The Unexpected.”
The powerhouse performance inspired Cowell to say she deserved a gold medal. Howie Mandel told her that Prince “knew what he was doing when he gave you this gem.” He added that it was a “drop the mic moment.”
The final act of the night came from Heidi Klum’s Golden Buzzer Richard Goodall, the school janitor who blew everyone away with his voice. He performed “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You” by Michael Bolton. Cowell told Richard that he hopes he starts “believing in himself,” causing him to get choked up.
The first results show of the season will air Wednesday night on NBC, as three acts move on to the Semifinals thanks to America’s votes. Who are you rooting for? Let us know in the comments below.
