Shawn Mendes Comes Back Onstage After Year-Long Mental Health Hiatus

Shawn Mendes is slowly but surely getting back on track. After a year and a half of mental health break, the Grammy-nominated singer has returned to the stage for a surprise performance with Ed Sheeran.
Shawn Mendes Returns to Stage After Year-Long Pause
During Ed Sheeran‘s stop in Toronto, Canada for his Mathematics Tour, Mendes has finally stepped on stage again for a sensational duet performance. On Sunday, Sheeran posted a clip on Instagram, showing his rehearsal with the “Stitches†hitmaker.
“Dude I feel insane, I feel crazy,” Mendes said.Â
The two performed Sheeran’s 2011 single “Lego House” and an acoustic version of Mendes’s 2017 hit “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back.” Such electrifying duet was Mendes’s first ever performance since he announced the cancellation of his major world tour mid-run.Â
Back in July 2022, the “Treat You Better” singer opened up that he needed to protect his mental health. According to Mendes, he felt he had to grow himself and come back stronger. Consequently, more than 70 concerts across North America, the United Kingdom and Europe were scrapped.
On Instagram, Sheeran has reflected on the iconic moment. The “Thinking Out Loud” singer expressed his gratitude for Mendes for sharing the stage with him.
“Toronto. What a moment,” he wrote. “Me and @shawnmendes on stage in his hometown. Wish I could bottle the feeling and keep opening it to feel that buzz again, so much fun. Thank you for singing with me man, so good to have you back.”
Nonetheless, amid Mendes’s stage comeback, he hasn’t revealed any details about his canceled tour. He also didn’t comment on the state of his mental health at present.
He Releases New Song About Climate Change
Earlier this month, Mendes released a brand-new and environmentally focused single. Titled “What The Hell Are We Dying For?,” the pop singer wrote the song to address the alarming air quality concerns in New York City after Canadian wildfires sent a blaze of smoke throughout many areas of the country.
“Started writing this song yesterday morning with my friends in upstate New York & finished it only a few hours ago..felt important to me to share with you guys in real time,” he wrote.
Mendes then noted that he donated to the Canadian Red Cross and encouraged to donate and learn more about the issue.
Apparently though, some people think that “What The Hell Are We Dying For?” is not an ecology-inclined. One user theorized on Instagram that the single is most probably about Camila Cabello, merely slapped with a message about environmental awareness.
