The Voice season 21 champions Girl Named Tom hilariously responded to television personality John Oliver after he harshly criticized the series. In an attempt to prove that the singing competition breeds superstars, the sibling band invited Oliver to one of their shows.
Girl Named Tom Responds to John Oliver’s Rude Comments
In an episode of Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, the program host openly stated his harsh judgment about The Voice. According to him, the series is one of the shows that haven’t produced notable winners despite the decades it has been in the business.
“It’s one of those situations where no matter what you do, you lose sort of like on The Voice,” he said. “Sure, there are technically winners but name a single one! The show has been on for conservative 50 years and not a single winner is a household name.”
Oliver went on and cockily said that viewers can’t tell him the first and last name of just one winner. Furthermore, he called veteran coach Blake Shelton “Honky Tonk Frankenstein” and betted that even he can’t do the same.
This video has apparently reached season 21 winners Girl Named Tom, who were quick to respond to his comments. In a quick Instagram video, the sibling band reuploaded the clip of the Last Week Tonight episode and addressed Oliver’s criticism.
“We’ll be keeping this receipt, John. This is not gonna age well for you,” Joshua said.
Caleb then chimed in, saying, “Maybe you’re right. People can’t name a single winner from The Voice, but we’re a trio.”
Riding her brothers’ banters, Bekah told Oliver that she “Googled” him and found out the he lives in New York, where they’ll be having a show. They then encouraged their fans to tag Last Week Tonight, so Oliver can notice them and thus, come to their show. Fans, in response, then immediately came for support.
They Shared a Quick Vlog About Their “Day In The City”
Last April 2, Girl Named Tom took the time to share chunks of their day in Seattle, Washington. The sibling band posted a quick vlog on Instagram showing their followers how they seized the day.
In the video, the three can be seen riding the Titanic ferry, with Bekah showing off her vocals as she does the whistle part of the movie’s soundtrack. They also headed to a music store, went for a walk and looked for a Bigfoot mascot. Furthermore, they also taped videos regarding their simple supper, quick run-arounds, and more walk trips.
Girl Named Tom is currently gearing up for their Spring Tour. The same will begin on April 20, 2023 at The Egg Performing Arts Center in Albany, New York. It will then conclude on May 13, 2023, at The Walker Theatre in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
