During a recent interview on Audacy’s KMLE Country 107.9 (Phoenix), American Idol judge Luke Bryan talked about whether he sees himself leaving the show one day. He made sure to take a dig at his friend Blake Shelton, who is leaving The Voice after this season.
Luke Bryan Talks About His Future on American Idol
Speaking from backstage at the Country Thunder music festival, Bryan shared his belief that Season 21 of American Idol is “our best season.” When asked about whether or not he sees an end to his time on the show, Bryan spoke about needing to stay motivated.
“I think in this business, when you’re touring and doing TV, you got to wake up and be motivated to do it. And I’m not sure when my time frame is on anything. As long as I wake up and I’m motivated…” Bryan said. “I really enjoy being part of American Idol, but I do miss a lot of time at home, so there’s always a balance.”
Bryan also commented on his friend and fellow country artist Blake Shelton’s likely reasoning for leaving The Voice after 23 seasons. He made sure to include a dig about Shelton’s talent.
“I think Blake probably came to the conclusion that he’s done it all on The Voice,” Bryan said. “It certainly made Blake a household name too, because he would’ve never been able to do that with his music alone.”

Bryan Thinks His Voice Has Improved Over the Years
When asked if he ever wishes he could change the lyrics to his past hits, Bryan said he’s more likely to notice how much better his voice has gotten since his early days of recording music.
“On my early stuff, I feel like my voice is a lot better now,” Bryan admitted. “I feel like back then I was still figuring out who I was as a singer and an artist. So I feel like I sing better than ever now.”
However, he shared that he doesn’t “live with too many regrets on music.” Last year, Bryan earned his 30th No. 1 hit on country radio with his song “Country On.” He’s currently judging his sixth season of American Idol alongside Katy Perry and Lionel Richie.
