‘The Voice’ Recap: Blake Shelton Awards Playoff Pass to Young Singer, Team Chance Shines

Alyssa Lazar and MANGUS perform on 'The Voice' Battle RoundsNBC

Reading Time: 3 minutes

The Voice Battle Rounds are back and better than ever. Although the round has just started, there has already been a few memorable match ups for the season. If you missed it, a ton of commotion took place on night one, including a Playoff Pass, and two steals.

Niall Horan Creates Great Pair, With Even Better Song Choice

The Voice Battle Rounds part two began with Team Niall singers Laura Littleton and Ross Clayton. In the performance, they sang “Stop Draggin My Heart Around” by Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. Since Laura auditioned singing “A Sign of The Times” by Harry Styles and Ross auditioned singing “Blue Ain’t Your Color” by Keith Urban, the battle song was absolutely perfect.

Ahead of the performance, both singers were seen agreeing with the song choice. Right after the song completed, Chance The Rapper admitted he’s never heard the song and probably doesn’t know anyone that does.

Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton admitted that Ross’s vocals cut through the song and stood out a bit more than Laura. When deciding, Niall Horan said it would be an easier decision if he didn’t know the artists. Ultimately, he decided to pick Ross as the winner of the battle.

Team Chance Reimagines “Your Song” by Elton John

Chance The Rapper’s team had an epic, yet extremely close battle with the song “Your Song” by Elton John. As a huge fan of Elton John, I can say I don’t always enjoy covers of his music, but this one… was OUTSTANDING.

The battle took place between Alyssa Lazar and MAGNUS. This was a great pick for the pair, since Alyssa sang “Maybe I’m Amazed” by Paul McCartney and MAGNUS sang “Sara Smile” by Hall & Oates. I can’t put into words how amazing this rendition is, so instead I will say, you could’ve heard a pin drop in that room.

As soon as the song was over, coaches complimented on how the singers were able to give a “cozy” performance of the song. When Chance The Rapper finally spoke, he complimented his singers for their dedication to the song, they got better with each rehearsal. Ultimately, he chose MAGNUS as the winner of the battle.

Team Blake Impresses With a Recent Song

Earlier today, fans were able to see Team Blake Members Kylee Dayne and Mary Kate Connor sing Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero” early. Since the duet was published on YouTube, fans have been dying to see which artist will make it through.

It’s no secret that Kylee and Mary Kate sounded amazing together. Even the coaches complimented their ability to sing the song as their own, even though it’s currently popular. Chance The Rapper even said they should release a cover of the song together.

Even though the battle was evenly matched, Shelton was able to decide a winner. He picked Kylee to continue on in the competition. The coach thinks that this singer will be able to go head to head with anyone in the competition. Luckily, Mary Kate’s time on the series isn’t over yet. Before the show ended, Shelton explained to the singer that she’ll hear a million “no’s” in the industry, but he’s not giving her one.

The Voice continues next Monday with the third installment of the Battle Rounds. Be sure to tune in on Monday, April 3 to see more of the competition.
