RuPaul’s Drag Race UK paid tribute to George Ward—Cherry Valentine—on her birthday. As a way to celebrate, BBC Three set up a special night of programming, featuring Cherry’s documentary.
Drag Race UK Celebrates Cherry Valentine’s Birthday
Last September 28, the drag community lost an outstanding diva with Cherry Valentine’s tragic death. On November 30, Drag Race UK along with the people who love Cherry has to celebrate her day without her presence. Thus, the series thought of the most touching way to remember her.
Drag Race UK premiered a special night of programming on BBC Three. The television channel played her feature documentary, Cherry Valentine: Gypsy Queen and Proud. Additionally, it aired the drag diva’s episode in God Shave the Queens.
Directed by Pete Grant, Cherry Valentine: Gypsy Queen and Proud essentially tackles Cherry’s struggles to accept his identity. Growing up as a Gypsy and discovering her gay orientation, she was compelled to abandon her Gypsy upbringing out of confusion. As she invented Cherry Valentine as a drag alter-ago, she later realized that she must reconnect with her origins and accept herself as a whole—a Gypsy drag queen.
Replaying this feature documentary is definitely a heartfelt move to honor the drag entertainer. Indeed, Cherry Valentine has not only given us attitude and charisma, but also lessons to keep in mind.
Fans Took the Time To Greet, Remember Her
Drag Race UK fans also grabbed the chance to greet and pay tribute to Cherry on Twitter. Most users who quote-tweeted the account’s tweet said that they have been missing Cherry on the show since her passing.
“Miss her so much, she would’ve done amazingly on a UK All Stars, or a Vs the World, or even a normal All Stars, let’s be honest! She deserved to have gone further on Drag Race,” one fan wrote.
Meanwhile, one fan stated that he was still heartbroken over what happened to her. Apparently, the public remains wondering about the real reason of her demise. No one in Cherry’s family has published any information about it at this time.
