So You Think You Can Dance judge JoJo Siwa is unlikely to ever talk to Candace Cameron Bure “ever again.” Following Bure’s homophobic remarks, Siwa said that she intends to use her voice more to rally behind the LGBTQIA+ community.
JoJo Siwa Doesn’t Want to Talk to Candace Cameron Bure
The SYTYCD judge recently attended the first ever global live stream presented by Disney+, Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium. Wearing a feathery red and orange Rocketman costume, she told People that she’s been learning to use her platform for something good.
“As I’m getting older, I’m starting to realize what an impact I really do get to have,” she said.
Last January, Siwa came out to the public as queer. Having this truth exposed, the gay icon understands the weight of her influence. Last week, she bravely criticized Bure’s plans to focus on traditional marriage for Great American Family network. She deemed this to be “rude and hurtful” to the queer community.
“You not liking gay marriage, do your thing girl. You being religious, do your thing girl,” she said. “Of course, I would want everybody to do what they want to do. But to purposely exclude someone because of who they love, that’s sh*tty.”
Amid the ongoing feud, Siwa admitted that she hasn’t talked face to face with her. She also doesn’t see herself speaking to the Full House star ever again.
She Says Bure Should be Educated About the Queer Community
While Siwa knows that she may appear “a little disruptive” to Bure’s life, it’s clear that she doesn’t regret challenging her beliefs. Apparently, she wants Bure to understand queer struggles better.
“I would want [Bure] to have a conversation with GLAAD,” she said. “Because even though I am educated, GLAAD is such an incredible organization. Sarah is a genius when it comes to the gay community.”
GLAAD, an abbreviated term for Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, is an advocacy organization founded to battle discrimination against queers. Siwa believes that having a conversation with its founder Sarah Kate Ellis will be eye opening for Bure.
According to her, it felt nice that she had good people to stand behind her. Indeed, Siwa wasn’t left unsupported when she called out Bure on Instagram before. Bure’s former Full House costar Jodie Sweetin and fellow Dance Moms alum expressed their agreement in the comments.
Candance Cameron Bure hasn’t spoken yet after Siwa’s statements.
