Magician Joaquín Matas Secures ‘Spain’s Got Talent’ Group Golden Buzzer

Joaquín Matas has made history as the first-ever magician to receive a unanimous Golden Buzzer on Spain’s Got Talent. This 47-year-old illusionist flawlessly performed an ancient magic trick, convincing the judges to send him straight to the Semi Finals.

Armed with three cups and a wand, Joaquín Matas brought his skills to the base of the judging panel. Before beginning, he asked the judges to pay attention to his close-up trick. He then placed a tiny mat on their table, arranged the cups on it, and pulled three red balls out of his pocket. From there, he kicked off a classic yet infallible trick.
“It’s the oldest magic trick in the history of mankind,” he said (translated to English).
In just a few seconds, Joaquín was able to make the balls disappear in his left hand. Afterwards, he made it appear inside the cups where they were originally put. Unbelievably, he did this while judges were attentively watching.
However, just as they thought Joaquin’s trick was over, the magician prepared to awe the crowd once more. Without errors, Joaquín managed to take a lime, lemon, and orange out of the cups, leaving the judges impressed and speechless.
The Judges Unanimously Hit the Golden Buzzer for Him
After Joaquín’s performance, it was the judges’ turn to give their assessments. Actor Dani Martínez was the first one to comment, saying that he was amazed by how Joaquin was able to trick people.
Singer Edurne regarded Joaquín as one of the best magicians they have seen, while actress Paula Echevarría praised him for his humor and hard-to-figure tricks. Out of the four judges, perhaps Risto Mejide was the most impressed. Subsequently, he urged other judges to give him a collective Golden Buzzer.
“I have to say one thing, many magicians have passed, but none have won. Here we have a mega crack, I think this is a gold button,” Mejide said (translated to English).
Edurne didn’t hesitate to join Mejide. Eventually, Echevarría and Martinez stood up and together, the four judges pressed the Golden Buzzer. This marks a groundbreaking history in Spain’s Got Talent, hailing Joaquín as the first ever magician to receive a group Golden Buzzer.
For those who may not know, opera singer Victory Brinker was the first auditionee to secure such unanimous decision, followed by singing trio Chapel Hart. Both of these acts were seen on America’s Got Talent.
Certainly, Spain is yet to see more of Joaquin Matas’ ancient magic. Who knows what object he’ll be able to make appear or disappear in the next round?
