‘AGT’ Star Brooke Simpson Makes Broadway Debut in ‘1776’ Revival

Brooke Simpson, who previously competed on The Voice and America’s Got Talent, is making her Broadway debut in a revival of the musical 1776. She and the rest of the cast recently performed “Sit Down, John” on Good Morning America.
America’s Got Talent Alum Brooke Simpson Appears in Broadway Revival of 1776
The musical 1776 first premiered on Broadway in 1969. It details the events leading up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This new revival is unique in that the cast is made up of female, non-binary, and trans performers.
According to Broadway World, the production is now in previews, with an official opening set for October 6. The musical will run as a limited engagement at the American Airlines Theatre through January 8 of next year before going on a national tour.
Brooke, who finished Season 16 of AGT in fourth place, appears in the production as Roger Sherman, who represented Connecticut at the Continental Congress. You can currently get tickets to see Brooke and the rest of the cast perform the show.

The Cast Performed on Good Morning America
On Thursday, the cast of 1776 gave their first televised performance on Good Morning America. They performed “Sit Down, John,” the first song in the show. This segment of the show features John Adams arguing with the Continental Congress to vote for independence.
The cast moved around Crystal Lucas-Perry, who plays Adams in the production, which is co-directed by Jeffrey L. Page and Diane Paulus. Page also choreographed the revival. The show’s music and lyrics are originally by Sherman Edwards, with a book by Peter Stone.
“Jeffrey and I are fascinated by the idea that history isn’t the clear or linear story we read in our textbooks, but instead, a predicament that we must grapple with in order to understand our past so that we can move forward together,” Paulus said of the production.
