Mariah Carey, Jonas Brothers to Headline Global Citizen Concert in New York

Mariah Carey and the Jonas Brothers will be headlining a concert in New York City’s Central Park next month as part of the 10th anniversary of the Global Citizen Festival. They’ll be joined at the concert by Metallica.

The concert will take place on Saturday, September 24, with another event happening the same day in Accra, Ghana, featuring performers such as Usher, SZA, and H.E.R. Joining Carey, the Jonas Brothers, and Metallica in New York will be Charlie Puth, Rosalia, Mickey Guyton, and Måneskin.
The event is a call to action to address worldwide issues such as poverty and hunger. As Mariah Carey wrote in her Instagram announcement, “I’m teaming up with @glblctzn to call on world leaders and corporations to empower women + girls, take climate action, and end extreme poverty.”
The New York concert will be hosted by Priyanka Chopra. Tickets to the concerts are free, but audience members must join Global Citizen and earn points by taking action on certain issues. You can find out more on the organization’s website.

How to Watch the Concert from Home
You don’t have to be there in person to see this year’s Global Citizen performances. Both the New York and Ghana concerts will be available to stream through ABC, ABC News Live, FX, Hulu, iHeartRadio, Twitter, YouTube, and more. You can also watch an ABC primetime special the next day, September 25, called Global Citizen Festival: Take Action NOW.
“These are urgent issues,” Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans told AP. “That’s why our campaigns focus on ending extreme poverty now — not next year, not the year after, but right now. We have to address the issues that matter most, whether it’s gender equality, climate change, or the structural issues that keep people poor.”
The first Global Citizen Festival took place in 2012. Since then, the organization has directed an estimated $41.4 billion to these causes and improved the lives of over a billion people.
