Former The X Factor (USA) judge Britney Spears is finally returning to music after being freed of her 13 year conservatorship. Spears is set to be featured in Sir Elton John’s upcoming remake of his 1971 hit “Tiny Dancer.”
Britney Spears is returning to music with the help of musical legend, Elton John. After several weeks of rumors, their collaboration has officially been announced on social media. Although there is no release date at this time, here’s everything we know.
Elton John Teases “Hold Me Closer”
John confirmed the release of his collaboration with Spears via social media on August 8 when he shared a photo revealing their song’s title. The post was simple and to the point, the graphic featured the text “Hold Me Closer” and a rose and rocket ship emoji. Fans assume the rose signifies Spears and her use of the emoji, while the rocketship signifies his nickname “Rocketman.”
A lot is still up in the air about this collaboration at this time. The social media announcement did not feature a release date, or anything about Spears’s involvement. Although Spears has yet to share the announcement of the song, her involvement has been confirmed. According to The New York Post, representatives of both John and Spears’s have confirmed the collaboration.
This release will be a turning point in Spears’s career. Not only will it be her first release since her 2016 album Glory, it’ll be the first song she’s released after ending her conservatorship last November. Though there is not an official release date for “Hold Me Closer,” it is currently available for pre-save/pre-add on Spotify, Apple Music, and Deezer.
Since Spears’s 13 year conservatorship was ended last November, the singer has implied her desire to return to music. In July, the singer made headlines for sharing her version of the 1998 hit “…Baby One More Time” while doing laundry. This version was different from the original tune, trading the original lyrics for adult based lyrics. This was a turning point in the singer’s career, since it was one of the first times she was able to show off her true voice.
Britney Spears Set to Begin New Chapter in the Music Industry
It seems like Spears’s single with John may be the beginning of a new chapter for the popstar. Fans are hoping that this single leads to a slew of other releases from Spears. John on the other hand is currently wrapping up his final Goodbye Yellow Brick Road tour. The final date of the tour takes place on November 20, 2022 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California. Although the singer’s touring days may soon be over, he’s made it clear that he’ll continue creating music – especially with the upcoming single “Hold Me Closer.”
Last year, John created a similar type of tune with popstar Dua Lipa. The tune, “Cold Heart” features a heavy pop tune, with the chorus of his 1972 tune “Rocketman.” Since this tune was released, it’s become quite the popular tune. “Cold Heart” peaked at No. 1 on the iTunes Song Chart soon after its release in August 2021. Fans expect a similar type of popularity with his upcoming collaboration with Spears.
John’s original tune “Tiny Dancer” was released as part of his 1971 album Madman Across The Water. A year later it was released as a single. “Tiny Dancer” became certified gold by the RIAA in May 2015, platinum in August 2011, and 3x platinum in April 2018. Since this song is such a hit already, the remix is bound to do well on the charts.
