Scotty McCreery’s new music video for his single “Damn Strait” honors country music legend George Strait. The American Idol Season 10 winner released the video as the second single from his 2021 Same Truck album. The new album is his second since leaving his Mercury Nashville music label.
Everything is black and white for the country music superstar as his new video tells a quick story of one of his favorite artists. “Damn Strait” opens with Scotty walking the country road towards Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, TX. The video tells the story of the band Ace in the Hole. Viewers will learn that the band played at Gruene Hall for six years hoping to get a record contract.
The end of the story tells us that in 1981 after Ace in the Hole’s last show, their lead singer George Strait was discovered. Country fans will know that Strait is a giant in the music genre. He has inspired some of our favorite country music artists to date, including Scotty.
In a behind the scenes look of “Damn Strait” Scotty describes the video of taking us to a place where the “King of Country was born.”
The video shows Scotty at his best as the song reflects back to the Idol champion losing the love of his life. Scotty’s admiration for Strait makes it hard for him to listen to his favorite singer without thinking of lost love.

Idol fans will remember that Scotty did not hide his love for Strait. He has said that seeing Strait in concert is when he knew he wanted to be a country singer. The singer dominated the singing competition show and remained safe until he ultimately won.
During his season Scotty performed two of Strait’s songs. He performed “I Cross My Heart” during the Top 8 and “Check Yes or No,” as one of his final songs.
Since winning, Scotty has seen success as a country music star. His latest Same Truck album was his fifth consecutive album to enter the Country Music Top 10 album charts.
