Simon Cowell to Launch New Car Show Set to Rival ‘Top Gear’

Simon Cowell just doesn’t quit. The talent show mogul has yet another project in the works. This time, he’s moving from talent to cars. The 61-year-old will premiere a new series similar to the concept of Top Gear. Cowell was seen as a famous guest driver on the show, and has since been approached by a number of well-known car experts over the years.
As an automobile connoisseur, Cowell feels like the idea of the show is a “no-brainer” for him. Currently, his new series Walk The Line is also in production. It seems to be that the well-known judge is having no trouble replacing the loss of The X Factor.
Simon Cowell’s New Car Show Brings his Passion to Light
As a huge car lover, Cowell’s new show will bring his personal passion to the stage. With the confirmed cancellation of The X Factor, his production team has been taking on a number of new projects. This new series will take the format of other famous car shows like Top Gear and the Grand Tour. Coincidentally, since creator Jeremy Clarkson’s leave from Top Gear in 2015, viewers have been yearning for a new automobile series to take its place.
In all fairness, Cowell can be considered somewhat of an expert on the topic. As of last year, his personal collection of cars included 19 different vehicles. These cars aren’t cheap either. His three most expensive cars include a Jaguar Eagle Speedster, Ferrari 458 Italia, and an AC Cobra MK IV, totaling over an estimated $1 million alone.
In the series launch, the program’s format will likely will focus on the examination and review of different motor vehicles. Motoring-based challenged, special races, and celebrity time lapsed courses should also be featured on the show. While the serie’s official title and network have not yet been released, it’s safe to assume that the show will be U.K. based.
In the Meantime, Catch Walk The Line
Speaking of U.K. based television, Cowell’s new show Walk The Line is coming to ITV this Winter. On the six-part series, musical acts will take the stage to perform for the audience and panel of judges. The top two performers of the evening will then face a big decision in their bid to be the reigning champion. They can either go home with a cash prize or “walk the line” and continue to play. If they manage to stay on top of the leaderboard, they will advance to the next show, battling a different set of performers.
In the midst of premiering these new series, Cowell also faces competition with host Vogue Williams. Her show, The Big Deal debuts on Virgin Media this Fall.
It seems like the production of the car show, will stabilize the rivalries on the U.K. based shows. As we know, Cowell is no stranger for producing a hit or two, so it will be interesting to monitor the show’s success. Keep an eye out for more details to come.
