‘America’s Got Talent: The Champions’ Wins the Ratings Again in Week 2

America’s Got Talent: The Champions is proving to be a hit for NBC, remaining fairly steady in both ratings and viewership from the first to second episode.
Last night’s episode garnered a rating of 1.7 for NBC; the highest of the night just above the 1.6 The Bachelor got for ABC. While that is a drop from the 1.8 the premiere got, it’s only down by a tenth. That is WAY smaller of a drop than most other shows get the week after they premiere, including FOX’s The Masked Singer.
The show once again had 9.9 million people tuned in this week, meaning they retained their entire viewership from the premiere! (In numbers, at least.) As we said last week, that’s a few million less than AGT tends to get in it’s regular summer timeslot, but it’s a very strong showing for a new spin-off with a winter-start competing against programming that’s held the coveted 8-10 pm slot on other networks.
That result helped lead NBC to victory in total viewership for the night, but even though Champions got the highest rating of any single primetime program Monday evening, ABC managed to beat them out for the top spot in total ratings thanks to a disappointing 0.9 for AGT lead-out Manifest.
It looks like America’s Got Talent: The Champions is a winner for NBC, and I expect it will continue to do well for the network in its remaining five episodes (well, as long as people don’t rage-quit the show over last night’s shocking results).
