Cristina won Amateur Night at the Apollo.
In February of this year, Cristina won Amateur Night at the iconic Apollo Theater in New York City. She performed a unique rendition of “In the Air Tonight” by Phil Collins that showed off her amazing vocal range.
One commenter on YouTube called it the best cover of the song he’d ever heard. Another wrote, “I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything more beautiful in my life. No words.” Check out the performance above.
She’s a single mom.
In a preview for the new season of AGT, Cristina appears on stage holding her young son in her arms. According to her online bio, his name is Jeremiah, and he’s two years old. In the clip, she tells the judges, “I was a single mom living in my vehicle. I want to live in our own house.”
In her bio, Cristina said of her son, “He brings joy and love unlike anything else off of the stage.” She added, “Jeremiah keeps me going and keeps me focused. He’s going to have everything I didn’t, consistent love being the #1 thing.”
Cristina is also a dancer.
Cristina is a triple threat — singing, dancing, and acting. On Instagram, she frequently posts videos of herself performing with the Dance Your Pounds Off studio. Above, she performs a routine to “Crazy in Love” with the studio’s founder Dwight Holt Jr. We wonder if she’ll ever show off her moves on the AGT stage.
She briefly studied Biology in college.
According to her bio, Cristina trained at Salama Urban Ministries from age 7 to 23, as well as attending the Blair School of Music. She also studied classical music and African dance at Nashville School of the Arts, and majored in Dramatics, Speech and Dance at Fisk University.
However, she briefly studied Biology at Tennessee State University after learning she needed a tonsillectomy and may never sing again. “If I couldn’t sing anymore, I wanted to study why that was the case,” she explained. When she realized she still had her voice, she left Tennessee State and pursued music.
Cristina has performed Off Broadway.
Recently, Cristina has appeared in Off Broadway productions by Company XIV in New York. She’s shared photos and videos from her time performing in Queen of Hearts and Nutcracker Rouge.
