What You Missed on ‘The Voice’s Live Cutdown Episode
Reading Time: 2 minutes
Ahead of the final results, The Voice returned to NBC with an hour long special, looking back at each performance from Monday night. Although it wasn’t originally mentioned in last night’s episode, this hour seems to be a recap more or less.
Was This Episode Formed Around The Singers? Or Blake Shelton?
The episode began with Carson Daly and the five finalists rewatching their finale part 1 performances. They started off by watching Grace West, then they watched D.Smooth’s performance, and so on.
Awkwardly enough, the crew was originally seen standing next to Carson Daly, but they never came back. At first, I thought there would be commentary from artists about how they thought their performance were, but it didn’t end up being the case. Instead, it was just a recap of each performance, and a revisit of coach comments.

What Was The Point of This Hour Long Special?
It didn’t seem like there was a point to this episode, it was practically a recap with a fun name. I will say, there were some new elements like seeing Wendy Moten, Cam Anthony and Chloe Kohanski, but overall this was a recap episode. Team Blake members or not, former contestants spoke well of the veteran coach. Although none of their statements got personal, it was nice seeing them. I will admit, seeing special guests throughout was cool, but unnecessary.
All in all, I found it weird that fans that tuned into this segment were watching last night’s show. The Live Cutdown was a re-run without labelling it as a re-run?
This episode was clearly aimed toward those who were unable to tune into the finale, which is interesting when looked into. Earlier this season, The Voice shared Monday nights with ABC’s American Idol. Both shows aired on Monday, but American Idol‘s primary air date was Sundays, while The Voice‘s was Mondays.
It’s almost like the network expected American Idol’s finale to be Monday night, so this episode was aired on behalf of those fans that watch both. Obviously, since American Idol‘s finale took place on Sunday, someone may not have gotten a memo, if this is truly the case.
