What is FOX’s Newest Competition Series ‘Domino Masters’?
Reading Time: 2 minutes
FOX is once again releasing a new show after the season premiere of The Masked Singer. Last season, fans saw this format with their new series Alter Ego. Even though it’s not a new singing competition, Domino Masters will premiere after The Masked Singer on March 9 at 9 p.m. ET. Could this show be the next Lego Masters?
What is Domino Masters?
On Domino Masters, teams of domino enthusiasts will face off in a domino topple and chain reaction tournament. In total, there are sixteen teams of trios competing against one another in domino building challenges. This competition is bound to get intense, if a team messes up resulting in a topple they will be up for elimination. Teams are fighting to take the crown of the country’s most talented domino topplers.
Within each episode of Domino Masters teams get a bold theme and custom elements to incorporate into their Rube Goldberg-style (chain reaction) topples. Fans should expect to see different weekly topple themes, similar to the LEGO Masters competition. Top teams will face off for a cash prize, the ultimate trophy and the grand title of Domino Masters.
New York Times best-selling math book author Danica McKellar; NFL Pro-Bowler and Super Bowl Champion Vernon Davis; and professional chain reaction domino artist Steve Price will see on the judging panel for the series. Eric Stonestreet from Modern Family is hosting the series. Joe Buck (FOX Sports Lead NFL and MLB Announcer) is the main narrator for Domino Masters.
Lego Masters Set to Return Next Fall
Don’t worry, Domino Masters coming to FOX doesn’t mean LEGO Masters is over. It’s actually the opposite. LEGO Masters was renewed by the network in early December. With the similar name and formatting, fans can assume that LEGO Masters‘ success was what urged FOX to create Domino Masters.
Alter Ego on the other hand has not been renewed or cancelled at this time. When this series debuted, FOX didn’t provide further detail on if it would always follow suit with The Masked Singer, or not. The series aired on FOX from Sept 12 to Dec 8 directly after The Masked Singer. Even though the concepts of having disguised singers were similar between the shows, Alter Ego racked in half the amount of viewers that The Masked Singer historically gets.
The Masked Singer brought in around 4 million viewers during their episodes last season, differing from Alter Ego who struggled to get 2 million viewers some weeks. While Alter Ego did bring in some viewers, it says a lot that fans haven’t heard about the fate of the series yet from FOX. I think we can all agree this series deserves a second chance if the format is different.
