The Masked Singer and Dancing with the Stars alum Wayne Brady will be making his return to the Broadway stage next year, starring as the title character in a revival of The Wiz. He’ll also perform the role in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Wayne Brady to Appear in The Wiz on Broadway

Brady has previously appeared in Broadway productions of Chicago and Kinky Boots. In the spring of 2024, he’ll be returning to Broadway in the role of the Wiz, following stops in San Francisco and LA. The production will begin touring this fall, with Alan Mingo Jr. playing the Wiz in several cities.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the cast will also include Kyle Ramar Freeman as the Lion, Phillip Johnson Richardson as the Tinman, and Avery Wilson as the Scarecrow. The production will be directed by Schele Williams, with additional material by Amber Ruffin and choreography by JaQuel Knight.

Earlier this week, Brady shared the news on Instagram, writing, “So you wanted to meet The Wizard? Well, you’ve come to the right place because I’m coming back to BROADWAY!!! As The Wiz!”

Brady also shouted out his fellow actors, writing, “All this melanin in one spot?!? Get ready Broadway!”

Brady Won Season 2 of The Masked Singer

Brady is perhaps best known for his time on the improvisational comedy series Whose Line Is It Anyway? However, in recent years, he’s had a couple of impressive runs on talent shows. In 2019, he appeared as Fox on Season 2 of The Masked Singer.

After impressing the panel with performances of songs such as “This Love” by Maroon 5 and “Tennessee Whiskey” by Chris Stapleton, Brady was named the winner and unmasked during the show’s Season 2 finale.

Then last year, Brady joined the Season 31 cast of Dancing with the Stars as a celebrity contestant, dancing with pro Witney Carson. Together, they made it to third place.
