‘The Voice UK’ Returns With A Surprising New Twist
Reading Time: 3 minutes
Everyone’s favorite non-U.S. incarnation of The Voice, The Voice UK, is back. Coaches Jennifer Hudson, Olly Murs, Tom Jones, and Will.i.Am return with host Emma Willis. They began blind auditions over the weekend, which is always my favorite part. But this year there is a twist. For the first time the show allowed trios to audition.
Mike Platt
First up is a 32-year-old father of two who works a normal job but wants to be a singer. Mike sang Show Me Heaven by Maria McKee and was good enough to get Tom, Olly, and Jennifer to turn their chairs around. He was a little pitchy but nothing that The Voice vocal coaches can’t help. He joined team Tom.

Heidi Lewis
Maybe it’s because our American sensibilities can’t take rejection like the Brits can, but on the American Voice we rarely see no chair turns. In the UK, not so much. Heidi sang Lost Without You by Freya Reidings but it was not enough. No chair turns.
Remember Monday
Remember Monday is our first trio of the night. Charlotte Steele, Holly-Ann Hull, and Lauren Byrne sang Seal’s Kiss from a Rose and were pretty damn good. They got a four chair turn and even got a shoe thrown by Jen. Remember Monday ended up on Jen’s team. Let’s see how well a trio does.

Breiya May
She’s got a smooth voice and a soulful delivery for a 16-year-old-girl. Will turned for her as did Olly. She ended up on team Will which is the right choice for her.
Liam Walker
Liam proves that there are hipsters in the UK and they are very similar to our hipsters here. He sang Landslide by Fleetwood Mac and he did a decent enough job. I think for someone, especially a man, to take on this song takes a lot of guts. However, it was not enough and he got no turns.

Peter Donegan
There is no doubt that Peter is good, but this seems like a bit of a set-up. He sang God Bless the Broken Road by Rascal Flatts and did a pretty damn good job. Where I say it’s a set-up is that his father Lonnie Donegan toured with Tom Jones. Tom got up and sang a song with Pete that his father wrote for Tom. He ended up on team Tom…unsurprisingly.
Molly Hocking
Molly picked Take My Breath Away by Berlin, which for people of a certain age will always be associated with the love scene in Top Gun between Tom Cruise and Kelly McGuinnes. But I digress. She got three turns and ended up on team Olly, which is totally the right on for her.
Nicole Dennis
Now this girl can sing. She’s even in the West End production of Dreamgirls. I’ll remind you that J-hud won an Oscar being in Dreamgirls. She sang Never Enough from Greatest Showman…which we are sick of hearing, but she did a damn fine job. unsurprisingly, she ends up on team Jennifer.
