‘The Voice’ Battle Rounds Kick Off To A Surprising Start
Reading Time: 4 minutes
We’re through The Blind Auditions and now, it’s time for some battles! The first night of The Voice Battles were filled with tough cuts and even some steals. Mentors Kelsea Ballerina (Team Kelly), Khalid (Team John), Charlie Puth (Team Adam) and Brooks & Dunn (Team Blake) joined in to help these contestants perfect their performances in hopes to make it to the next round. So who made it past the battle round? Read on to find out!
Shawn Sounds vs Matthew Johnson (Team John)
First to kick off the battle rounds is a double four-chair-turn. What?! The other judges were surprised by John’s decision to have both men battle, but John says that they have a similar tone and he thought they’d be the perfect pairing. Singing Never Too Much and having the judges and audience dance on their feet, both artists did an incredible job, with Adam even saying that he couldn’t choose a winner. Ultimately it was time for John’s decision and he went with Shawn, but the end of the road for Matthew wasn’t near because he had a double steal from Adam and Kelly. When it came time to pick, he went with Team Kelly. Both men are onto the next round!
Winner: Shawn Sounds
Steal: Matthew Johnson (Team Kelly)
The Bundys vs Mikaela Astel (Team Kelly)
For the first time ever, we have four artists on the stage. Mikaela had to go against The Voice’s first ever trio, which I imagine is pretty intimidating. Performing to Songbird highlighted Mikaela’s strong and vulnerable voice and The Bundys incredible harmony. Unfortunately, the judges felt that Michaela let the nerves of the battle get to her so when it came time to pick a winner Kelly went with The Bundys.
Winner: The Bundys
Gyth vs Rod (Team Blake)
It’s time for Team Blake’s battles so you know two country artists are taking the stage. Singing Drunk Me, both artists were incredibly strong. With Kelly and Adam advising Blake to pick Rod, and John advising Gyth, the judges were pretty much split. When it came time to pick, Blake went with Gyth but the end of the road wasn’t near for Rod because Adam brought him on his team. Both are headed to the next round, and Adam officially has a country artist on his team.
Winner: Gyth
Steal: Rod (Team Adam)
Domenic Haynes and Trey Rose (Team Adam)
Hands down one of the better battles tonight, both Domenic and Trey were on fire performing to the song I Need a Dollar. Even though they both have different styles, they complimented each other very nicely. While Blake and John was in favor of Domenic, Kelly said she would have picked Trey. Ultimately, Adam went with the constant that he said was his favorite blind audition on the show ever and had Domenic move onto the next round. Surprisingly enough, Trey wasn’t stolen from another coach, despite his flawless performance.
Winner: Domenic
Maelyn Jarmon vs Savannah Brister (Team John)
What a powerhouse duo! All coaches gave this performance a standing ovation so you know it was good! This was going to be one of the harder choices, but I predicted that the one who wasn’t chosen would be a steal for another coach. With their incredible duet to When We Were Young, this battle was a tough choice for John but he went with Maelyn. Unfortunately, Savannah wasn’t stolen (who else thought Kelly would steal her?!) but she’s off to the Comeback Stage for a second chance!
Winner: Maelyn
Jej Vinson vs Beth Griffith-Manley (Team Kelly)
These two artists made sure to leave their mark, and Kelly was left wondering why she paired such incredible contestants together. Singing the song Jealous, both Jej and Beth shinned in their own styles. Ultimately, Kelly went with Jej but Beth was stolen by Team John and they’re both moving onto the next round!
Winner: Jej
Steal: Beth (Team John)
Well, that’s it for tonight’s battles. Let us know who your favorites were, and if you disagree with any of the choices! Next week we’ll be back with more results from the battles!
