Whoopi Goldberg Praises American Idol Singer Sara Beth
During the first round of Hollywood Week, Sara Beth performed “Roxanne” by The Police. Afterward, she told the judges that she would be leaving the competition to return to her three kids. Despite Katy Perry’s attempts to convince her to stay, Sara Beth dropped out.
“People have to make decisions, and you made the decision that was right for you,” Whoopi Goldberg said on The View earlier this week. “And with that voice, that will not be your only time. And you’re young enough to come back and do it again.”
Goldberg added that she respects Sara Beth for her decision, saying, “You had to go with your heart.” She predicted that the 25-year-old singer “will have other opportunities with that voice.”
Co-host Joy Behar pointed out that Sara Beth has “already gotten a lot of exposure just for what she’s done.”

The Singer’s Decision Brings Up Work-Life Balance
Sara Beth’s decision sparked The View co-hosts to discuss the idea of work-life balance that so many women struggle to figure out as they pursue a career while raising kids. Sara Haines argued that “there’s no balance,” and people “have to know your north star.”
“I hate this work-life balance discussion,” Sunny Hostin said. “Because I don’t ever hear men having it. I don’t ever hear men having this, ‘Should I not take this job opportunity so that I can stay home with my children?’ … Why are we as women always told that we do have to make it all work?”
Sara Beth is still pursuing music off the show. She recently teased an upcoming new song called “Bruises,” which fans can pre-save now.
