The Things Kelly Clarkson Says: Season 15 of The Voice
Reading Time: 4 minutes
The Voice season 15 kicked off with a bang Monday night, serving up some of the best talent we’ve seen to date. Pop princess Kelly Clarkson ALWAYS adds her two sense, with a bit of extra and sass. Let’s take a look at 5 quotes from this season, straight from the mouth of the original American Idol.
1.“My favorite part is you had stank face for days.”
During The Voice blind auditions 15-year-old Sarah Grace performed a bluesy rendition of Janice Joplin’s Ball and Chain. Three coaches turned their chairs to this pint-sized bundle of soul, in awe of her raw talent. Nicknaming Grace ‘Stank Face’ Clarkson playfully explained, “It’s a compliment! It’s like, my girlfriends and I are always like, ‘Oh she has a stank face.’ Like, I love it. I will not call you that if you don’t want me to. I really do wanna say, I did actually win ‘The Voice’ last year with a 15-year-old. I’m just saying, I can do it. I’m a big fan, man. I was surprised you were so little with a such a big old soul voice.” Last season Clarkson won The Voice with 15-year-old Brynn Cartelli…second times a charm? We definitely think Grace could be a top contender this season.

2. “I think we just need to add mud and let them go at it”
In the second episode of the season, solo guitarist Michael Lee stuns the crowd and the coaches with his gritty sound. Performing B.B. King’s The Thrill Is Gone was a great song choice on Lee’s part. Three coaches turned their chairs, shocked to see the young man standing before them. As soon as Clarkson turned her chair she screamed, “WHAT?! OH YOU ARE BAD!” Adam Levine and Blake Shelton’s playful banter ensued as they campaigned to be the best possible coach for Lee, to which Clarkson responded, “I think we just need to add mud and let them go at it.” We cant say we don’t agree, also can they do it shirtless? #askingforafriend.

3. “He’s just that odd guy alone in the park, like singing to animals”
Memphis Tennessee park ranger Keith Paluso was the first performer of the second episode. Not only were we exposed to Paluso’s impeccable talent as he belted out a cover of Way Down We Goby Kaleo, but we also learned a thing or two about the different sounds that birds make. That’s right, you read that correctly…bird sounds. Uniqueness goes a long way in this competition, and Paluso definitely set himself apart from the crowd. Country legend Blake Shleton snagged this competitor away from his favorite friendly arch nemesis, Adam Levine. Clarkson jokingly said “He’s just that odd guy alone in the park, like singing to animals.” To which coach Jennifer Hudson responded, “What park you play at, cause I wanna go.” We can’t wait to see where Paluso takes his soulful, rocker sound.

4. “You have that really sweet sincere voice that makes the girls go OKAAY!”
Can you say four chair turns anyone? DeAndre Nico made the crowd and the coaches swoon at his rendition of Bruno Mars When I Was Your Man. As a hurricane survivor this amazing performer wore his heart on his sleeve and made America (and Kelly) fall in love. Levine fought hard to mentor Nico expressing, “First of all, I heard the greatness in your voice early. I pressed my button like a minute before everybody else. You’re amazing, bro. And now that they’ve made it personal, I’m gonna fight even harder. The person who normally presses first, they know what they hear is really, really special. So you know what? In that way I want to lead you because I felt like I led the charge on this one. I can take you all the way.” The ladies of the bunch (Clarkson and Hudson) both gave Nico props on his looks and his ability to make the girls go “OKAAY”, as Clarkson would say. This Texas native is definitely going to take The Voice competition by storm.

5. “It’s not on the plan”
Cincinnati native Tyshawn Colquitt brought the house down with his cover of Sam Smith’s Like I can. The eldest of ten brothers and sisters, Colquitt brought pound cake for guests and coaches alike from the company he shares with his mother, Pound For Sound. This strong vocalist puts on a nice suit and performs mini concerts for all of the company’s pound cake eatin’ customers. Clarkson petitioned hard for her American Idol sister, Hudson…telling Colquitt she would absolutely pick Jennifer. Levine dove right in to the pound cake head first even offering a bite to Shelton. Clarkson had cake on her mind saying, “I love cake, lets be real…but it’s not on the plan!” Clarkson must be referring to whatever plan helped her drop the pounds and step forward as a brand new woman at Simon Cowell’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.

There is never a shortness of laughter hearing Clarkson’s commentary. We are so excited to see what other comments she has up her sleeve this season.
