The Masked Singer Season 8 returned on Wednesday for Andrew Lloyd Webber Night. Three totally new contestants took the stage, giving some strong performances of Webber’s songs. Robo Girl was named the new Queen. Meanwhile, Maize was unmasked as Mario Cantone, while Mermaid was unmasked as Gloria Gaynor.

Maize, Mermaid Unmasked on ‘The Masked Singer’

The first performer of the night was Maize, whose costume looked like an ear of corn. He performed “Heaven on Their Minds” from Jesus Christ Superstar. The panel seemed surprised to hear that there was apparently a man under the mask. Andrew Lloyd Webber himself told Maize that he wanted to work with him.

Maize sounded great, but he was up against some tough competition. He failed to earn enough audience votes to go into the Battle Royale, meaning he was unmasked first. Guesses from the panel included Jack White, Nathan Lane, and Jonathan Groff. But only Jenny McCarthy correctly guessed that it was Sex and the City Star Mario Cantone.

The night’s other unmasking was Mermaid, who appeared on stage in a giant shell. She performed “Any Dream Will Do” from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The panelists were wowed, especially after she went up against Robo Girl in the Battle Royale.

However, they ended up choosing to name Robo Girl the Queen of The Masked Singer this week. That meant that Mermaid had to be unmasked. Guesses included Cher and Gloria Estefan. But Robin Thicke and Nicole Scherzinger were correct in their guess that it was “I Will Survive” singer Gloria Gaynor. The panel has been guessing her for several seasons, but they’ve always been wrong until now.

Robo Girl Named Queen, Moves on to Next Week

It was a strong week, but only one of the three contestants could move on to next week’s show. That turned out to be Robo Girl, who teased that she has the “most magical fandom in the world” who gave her “supernatural confidence.”

Robo Girl performed “Bad Cinderella” from Webber’s Cinderella. She showed off a fun personality on stage while the panelists gave their thoughts. Guesses included Jenna Dewan, Kiki Palmer, and Selena Gomez.

Toward the end of the night, Robo Girl shined in the Battle Royale with Mermaid, as they both sang “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” from Evita. Robo Girl belted out the song, showing off an incredible voice. Webber said he was “humbled” to hear such talented singers perform his songs.

Who do you think is under the Robo Girl mask? Do you think she’ll keep her crown during next week’s show? Will we see her go up against Harp in the Semifinals? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
