‘The Masked Singer’ Recap: Medusa Earns Last Spot in the Quarterfinals
Reading Time: 2 minutes
The Masked Singer Season 9 returned on Wednesday night, as the three contestants who were saved by the “Ding Dong, Keep It On” Bell went head to head for a spot in the Quarterfinals. That spot ultimately went to Medusa, while Mantis and Gargoyle were unmasked as Lou Diamond Phillips and Keenan Allen, respectively.
Medusa Goes to The Masked Singer Quarterfinals
The panel saved Medusa earlier in the season after they lost out to California Roll. During Wednesday’s show, they took the stage to sing “Mercy” by Shawn Mendes. The incredible performance prompted Robin Thicke and Ken Jeong to stand on the table.
Later, Medusa earned enough votes from the audience to face off against Gargoyle in the Battle Royale. Medusa put a unique spin on “Centuries” by Fall Out Boy, belting out an insanely long note at the end of the song.
It was no surprise when the panel chose to send Medusa to the Quarterfinals. They’ll be going up against California Roll, Macaw, and UFO. Although we didn’t see Medusa unmasked this week, guesses from the panel included Lorde and Kesha.

Mantis, Gargoyle Unmasked as Lou Diamond Phillips, Keenan Allen
During Wednesday’s show, Mantis impressed the panel with a cover of “You Really Got Me” by The Kinks. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to earn the audience’s vote, so he was forced to unmask. Guesses from the Masked Singer panel about his identity included Dennis Quaid, Steve Buscemi, and Brendan Fraser.
However, all of them turned out to be wrong, because Mantis was actually actor Lou Diamond Phillips. He shared that one of the reasons he wanted to do the show is because his daughter is a huge fan.
Meanwhile, Gargoyle had the crowd dancing with his performance of “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love” by Usher. He earned a spot in the Battle Royale, but his performance of “Centuries” didn’t beat Medusa’s, so he had to be unmasked.
The panel guessed athletes such as Joey Bosa and Marshawn Lynch, but Gargoyle actually turned out to be Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen. He said he grew up singing in a choir, but singing on the show was more nerve-racking than being on the football field.
Do you agree with the choice to send Medusa to the Quarterfinals? Did you correctly guess either of the celebrities who were unmasked this week? Let us know in the comments below.
I don’t know what is up with the judges this season, Medusa should have been gone weeks ago.
