After seven years of marriage, Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert have seperated. The “Gonna Love Me” singer confirmed the news on Instagram, claiming that they’re still best friends.

In an Instagram post dated on September 17, Taylor announced that she and the former basketball player have broken up. The actress uploaded a throwback picture of them dressed as “Wayne’s World” characters Wayne and Garth.
“AHT AHT! Not too much on my bestie!” she wrote. “In all fairness, Iman and I are separated and have been for a while.”
Taylor proceeded to deny rumors that cheating is the reason for their breakup. According to the singer, they are still communicating for co-parenting and business affairs.
“To be 1000% clear, ‘infidelity’ ain’t one of the reasons for our departure. We are still the best of friends, great business partners and are one hell of a team when it comes to co-parenting our 2 beautiful children,” she wrote.
The now-estranged couple share 7-year-old daughter Iman “Junie” Tayla Shumpert Jr. and 3-year-old daughter Rue Rose Shumpert together.
In the same post, the A Thousand and One star further stated that they’ve taken their relationship seriously in their 10 ten years of being together and seven years of being married. She added that she and the DWTS winner they chose to settle their issues privately so they can “successfully & peacefully separate without all of the outside noise.”
“The only reason I’m even sharing THIS part of the chat is because the narratives are getting a little out of hand & it’s unfair to all parties involved,” she wrote. “I hope this provided some clarity for y’all. Okay AunTey taking y’all back out the chat bye!”
Shumpert has yet to publicly address their separation at this time.
Fans Praise the Singer for Handling the Situation with Grace
Upon seeing the announcement, fans were quick to express their sad reactions. Be that as it may, they particularly commended Taylor for keeping the announcement diplomatic and neat.

Taylor and the former NBA player’s romance and family life have been documented on the VH1 series Teyana and Iman in 2018. In 2021, the pair came back to reality tv for We Got Love Teyana & Iman.
Over the years, the two didn’t lack showing support for each other. When Shumpert competed on and won season 30 of Dancing With The Stars, Taylor was his frequent supporter. They have also honored and paid tribute to each other during special occasions.
