Taylor Hicks Posts ‘American Idol’ Season 5 Throwback — What Is He Up to Now?
American Idol Season 5 winner Taylor Hicks recently marked 17 years since his season of the show premiered. The singer shared a throwback photo with several of his fellow contestants from that season, including Katharine McPhee and Chris Daughtry.
Taylor Hicks Posts American Idol Season 5 Throwback
Hicks wrote on Tuesday that Season 5 of the singing competition “premiered exactly 17 years ago today.” He then encouraged fans to watch Season 21 of the show when it premieres on February 19 on ABC.
He shared a photo of the Top 12 from that season, including runner-up Katharine McPhee, rocker Chris Daughtry, and country singer Kellie Pickler. Other contestants included Paris Bennett, Ace Young, and Bucky Covington.
Daughtry commented on Hicks’ Instagram post, writing, “Holy sh*t!! Blast from the past!!!!” Another user wrote that Season 5 was their favorite season. Someone else commented that this was American Idol “at its peak.”
What Has Hicks Been Up to Since Winning?
Since winning Season 5 of American Idol, Hicks has released two studio albums. The first, his self-titled major label debut, was released in 2006, just months after his win on the show. He followed that up with another album called The Distance in 2009.
The singer has also pursued some non-musical ventures, including opening a restaurant in Birmingham, Alabama, in 2011. He also had a residency at Bally’s in Las Vegas and appeared as a celebrity guest on The Masked Singer live tour last year. Hicks has also performed on stage in productions of the musicals Grease and Shenandoah.
