‘Strictly Come Dancing’ Star Johannes Radebe Guests on ‘Drag Race’
RuPaul’s Drag Race and Strictly Come Dancing are crossing over this week, as Johannes Radebe makes a guest appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs. The World. Radebe is a choreographer and professional dancer on Strictly.
The show’s Twitter account posted the news ahead of Tuesday’s new episode. According to the tweet, Radebe “will be helping our queens get their choreography on point.” This will be the third episode of the spin-off show, which premiered on BBC Three February 1.
Radebe is a South African dancer who first appeared as a professional dancer on South Africa’s version of Strictly Come Dancing, and later on the South African Dancing with the Stars. He joined the British Strictly Come Dancing in 2018, although he wasn’t paired with a partner at first.
In subsequent seasons, Radebe danced with Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley, coming in 11th place, and Men Behaving Badly star Caroline Quentin, coming in eighth place. But his partnership in Season 19, which aired last year, made history for the show.
Radebe Made History on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’
For Season 19, Radebe was partnered with Great British Bake Off winner John Whaite. The two became the first male same-sex pairing in the history of the UK series.
They ended up finishing the competition in second place, losing to EastEnders star Rose Ayling-Ellis and her partner Giovanni Pernice. Radebe said in an interview that his partnership with Whaite changed his life.
“I have fallen in love with my art form again because of John,” Radebe said. “The opportunity to be so creative with what we had to come up with every week. I was trying to figure things out as I was going along. Not once did he make me feel otherwise.”
RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs. The World airs on BBC Three Tuesday night at 9 p.m.
