The Voice has shared an early release audition from next week’s episode of the show, featuring contestant Tatum Scott. The 22-year-old singer performs “Vampire” by Olivia Rodrigo, inspiring two coaches to turn their chairs.
Singer Covers Olivia Rodrigo in The Voice Audition
Coach John Legend was the first coach to turn around for Tatum Scott, early in her performance. Kelsea Ballerini hit her button to turn around soon after him. Adam Levine and Michael Bublé chose not to turn their chairs.
Tatum got emotional when the song was over and it was time to introduce herself to the coaches. She said hello to Ballerini, adding, “I love you.” After that, she shared that she just turned 22 and is living in Nashville.
That prompted Ballerini to get up out of her chair and stand in front of Legend, who was her only competition to get Tatum on her team. She pointed out that she also lives in Nashville, and she also has the same pants as the ones Tatum was wearing. Tatum said she saw her wear the pants in concert.
Ballerini complimented Tatum’s lower register and praised her song choice. She went on to suggest that they should wear matching outfits if Tatum chooses to join her team.
After Ballerini shared her pitch for why Tatum should join her team, Legend told the singer that he knows how much “confidence and calm” it takes to sing as low as she did. He added that he thought he had “a decent shot” until Tatum and Ballerini started talking.
“Kelsea has never done this show before,” Legend pointed out. “I have so much experience helping young artists navigate their way through this show. And with Kelsea, she may. We don’t know.”
Ballerini told Tatum that she has “so much fire under my butt to kill it for you.” Legend fired back that he listens to Olivia Rodrigo’s music “in the car with my daughters,” adding that he’s “very young and hip.”
We’ll have to wait until the next episode of The Voice Season 27 airs on Monday night to find out which coach Tatum chose. What did you think of her audition? Let us know in the comments below.
