During an interview with E! News on the red carpet at the America’s Got Talent live shows, Cowell was asked what he thought about Underwood joining American Idol. The former judge said he thought she was “a good choice” for the show.
“We go back a long way,” Cowell said of him and Underwood. “And I remember her audition like it was yesterday. She was so good. She’s such a sweet person.”
When asked what advice he would give her, Cowell said she should “say how you feel,” adding, “It’s not that difficult, doing this job, I promise you. We all feel the same things, and we don’t agree, thank God, otherwise life would be boring.”
He told Underwood to “just enjoy it.” The singer will be sitting on the Idol panel with longtime judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. She’s the first former contestant to be a judge on the show.
