Simon Cowell Hits Golden Buzzer in AGT Quarterfinals

This season, the four judges each had the opportunity to hit the Golden Buzzer for one act during the Quarterfinals, sending that act straight to the Finals. As of Tuesday night, Cowell was the only judge who hadn’t done the honors.

After making it through the audition round, aerial duo Sebastian & Sonia returned to the show this week. Unfortunately, Sonia injured her elbow during rehearsals, so Sebastian performed the routine solo. He swung from the ceiling while Sonia watched from backstage.

The judges gave Sebastian a standing ovation for the performance. Cowell shared how impressed he was, adding that many people would probably decide to quit the show in their situation. He shared that it was the best audience reaction so far, so he chose to hit the Golden Buzzer for them.

After celebrating on stage with the pair, Cowell called Sebastian’s performance “the definition of courage.” Sonia said that she would be good to perform in the Finals, so we’ll get to see them together again.

What Other Acts Impressed the Judges?

Tuesday night’s show also featured performances from two acts who earned the Golden Buzzer in the audition round. That includes dance group Brent Street, who received the honor from Howie Mandel. For the Quarterfinals, they delivered a dark and moody routine that had the audience cheering.

Mandel called it “one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen in my whole life.” He wanted Cowell to hit the Golden Buzzer, but that didn’t end up happening. Cowell said he preferred the second half of the performance to the first half, adding that it was “too artsy.” That prompted boos from the audience.

Tuesday’s episode also featured a performance from Heidi Klum’s Golden Buzzer act Pranysqa Mishra, who sang “Wrecking Ball” by Miley Cyrus. The crowd applauded the 10-year-old singer for her incredible voice, and the judges gave her a standing ovation. Klum said the show saved “the best for last.”

Voting was open overnight for viewers to pick their favorite acts. On Wednesday night’s results show, we’ll find out which three acts were chosen to move on to the Semifinals. Who are you rooting for? Let us know in the comments below.
