Sharon Osbourne Says She Knows Why ‘The X Factor UK’s Ratings Are Low: Simon Cowell

Reading Time: 2 minutes
Sharon Osbourne isn’t known for keeping her opinions to herself. She was a judge on The X Factor UK for years until she was fired this year in order to make room for the new judges. It’s also no secret that this was done in part to help boost the show’s plummeting ratings. But Sharon says that she knows why the ratings have steadily declined. The reason? Simon Cowell.
Not surprisingly, when Sharon Osbourne was fired from the show, she lashed out at Simon. Ultimately, it’s his decision. She went on Howard Stern and called Simon a ‘Fat-face mother____’. Sharon is tough and she speaks her mind. After last season, Simon decided that what the show needed was fresh blood. He got rid of Nicole Scherzinger, Louis Walsh, and Sharon and replaced them with Louis Tomlinson, Ayda Field, and Robbie Williams. I guess Simon figured that they would attract a younger audience. But, obviously, it hasn’t worked. A couple of weeks ago The X Factor UK had its lowest ratings EVER in the history of the show. According to Sharon the real problem is that Simon keeps fiddling with the show. She said,
“Unfortunately, not out of malice, but I am only saying this because Simon’s quote thinks it is funny, that the figures have dropped, and dropped and dropped through the course of the show. I am not saying it was all me at all, but (it’s because of) his decision to change the show again and again and again.”
It might be spoken a bit out of malice but she may have a point. Last season Simon added a bunch of crap to the format that the fans didn’t like. Then he changes the judge’s panel. What Sharon Osbourne is saying is that Simon keeps looking for the cause of the problem when maybe it’s Simon all along. The reason I say that she might have a point has to do with the psychology of longterm fans of a show. They like consistency and they don’t necessarily want the show to change too much. You have to spice it up a little to keep people interested, but not too much. British audiences are also very set in their ways. The like things to stay the same. ITV has renewed The X Factor for another season…but I really wonder how long they can keep this up.
