Shakira Dethrones Bad Bunny, Makes Spotify History

Colombian pop star Shakira has recently made Spotify history after “BZRP Music Session #53” rose to the top of the charts. Consequently, she has now surpassed Bad Bunny on being the Latin artist with the most listeners on the streaming platform.
Shakira Breaks Spotify Record with “BZRP Music Session #53”
It turns out that dedicating a song for a former lover could be a groundbreaking strategy to set a record in the music scene. Not even 10 days upon her latest music release, Shakira acquired 68.7 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Puerto Rican rapper bad Bunny used to hold this title, previously having 68 million listeners.
Amazingly, Shakira is the first ever woman to achieve this milestone. For those who may not know, “BZRP Music Session #53” is the pop singer’s musical collaboration with Bizarrap. In the track, Shakira disses her ex Gerard Pique while also seemingly dragging his new girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti.
It comes in no surprise that the musical collaboration will reach such big record. During its first day, the single has become the most listened to on Spotify’s global list. Furthermore, it peaked at the top of the charts in numerous Spanish-speaking countries, dominating the world top 50 24 hours upon its release.
Meanwhile, another female singer is climbing in the ranks on Spotify. Pop star Miley Cyrus is now the fastest artist to reach 100 million views with her newest single “Flowers.” This led Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero” to step back from the top spot.
She Feels “Humbled and Grateful” Amid the Big Milestone
After learning such achievement, the “Waka Waka” singer expressed her appreciation for her supporters. She also shared this newest milestone with other female artists in the industry.
“I feel humbled and grateful though I’m only one among millions of women out there who have so much to say and offer,” she wrote. “Women of all races, ages and conditions. Thanks for your loyalty and support.”
Shakira did not only obtain success with “BZRP Music Session #53” on Spotify. It’s also quickly gaining views on YouTube. The single has already gained 191 million views in less than two weeks.
