Singer Sam Smith has received backlash for their recent performance at the Mad Cool Festival 2023 in Madrid, Spain. As there were apparently no age restrictions to attend, some critics took issue with Smith’s raunchy performance being seen by children.
Sam Smith’s Madrid Performance Receives Backlash
During their set in Madrid, Smith performed “Unholy,” their hit collaboration with Kim Petras. The performance matched the sexy tone and subject matter of the song, with Smith and their backup dancers wearing skin-baring outfits and showing off suggestive dance moves.
The singer’s detractors took to Twitter to criticize the performance, with one user asking, “Do you think this type of show is appropriate for children?” Another user wrote to Smith, “You have lost your damn mind.”
Others argued that parents shouldn’t have taken their kids to the show in the first place. As one Twitter user wrote, “You think Sam Smith shouldn’t perform in front of small children? I agree. But your problem should primarily be with the parents who bought their kids tickets.”
Another user mocked a tweet calling Smith “demonic,” writing, “Apparently Jesus has no problem with people carrying AR-15s into the Circle K, but he would lose his sh*t over seeing Sam Smith’s butt.”
