Rita Ora Slapped With Big Fine After Getting Caught Violating The Law
Rita Ora turned 30 years old last week and felt it was time to celebrate. The singer threw a secret party with 30 people at a restaurant in West London on Saturday. It turned out to be not so secret after all. This is against the social distancing rules that the government put into place to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the UK. The night went south once law enforcement learned of the party.
Rita Ora Faces Serious Consequences After Throwing Party Amid Lockdown
During the party which was attended by stars like Cara and Poppy Delevingne, police officers paid a visit. They looked through the windows and tried to open a security door in photos obtained by The Sun. However, NBC reports that at the time the officers did not find any breach of the rules being committed.
Rita later posted an apology on her Instagram story. “Hello all, I attended a small gathering with some friends to celebrate my 30th birthday,” she wrote. “It was a spur of the moment decision made with the misguided view that we were coming out of lockdown and this would be OK… I’m deeply sorry for breaking the rules and in turn understand that this puts people at risk.”
“This was a serious and inexcusable error of judgment” she continued. “Given the restrictions, I realize how irresponsible these actions were and I take full responsibility. I feel particularly embarrassed knowing first-hand how hard people have worked to combat this terrible illness and being fully aware of the sacrifices that people and businesses have made to help keep us all safe. Even though this won’t make it right, I want to sincerely apologize.”
Rita Offered To Pay A Fine After Breaking The Rules
The UK has been ravaged by coronavirus with 58,448 deaths since the start of the pandemic. This is the highest death toll in Europe. The government imposed another lockdown from November 5 to December 2 to prevent social gatherings. Part of the rules went into detail about how people need to stay home and not intermingle with other people that they do not live with. Restaurants were only supposed to remain open for takeout. Any breaches of the rules can result in fines.
The cops paid another visit to Rita’s home on Monday to further investigate this breach of the rules. She did offer to pay a fine of £10,000 which is about $12,000. “Rita knows her actions were wrong which is why she has voluntarily paid the £10,000 fine to the council. She hopes this will go some way to making up for her error of judgment” a source told The Daily Mail.
But even after paying a fine, people are still questioning Rita’s actions. “Is Rita Ora thick, or just plain arrogant? She doesn’t give a toss. One rule for the rich and famous, another for us. She thought the lockdown was ending last weekend when everything is still closed? What a load of absolute bulls*it” wrote one Twitter user.
“What’s hysterical was that @RitaOra was actually featured in the Covid-19 relief song” another wrote.
“And here we are trying to work out which family members we can and can’t see at Christmas, unlikely to be able to have a party with all of our friends at New Year. This sort of behavior is why others think they can do what they like and not follow the rules #RitaOra” said another.
According to TMZ, the cops are still investigating the restaurant that Rita held her party at and will assess the consequences.
