The reggae soul artist was asked by Carson Daly about her mom and how she is supporting Pia in spirit. It was a very real on-camera moment that all of the coaches resonated with. Victor Solomon stood next to her on stage and was able to comfort her at this moment. Viewers at home were definitely crying along with Pia, an early standout in the competition.
“I just want to say thank you to my mother for teaching me how to show up for myself against all odds and even in her absence still showing up for me in ways that I can’t even fathom or ask for,” she said through tears.
Back in the Knockouts, Pia told Mega Mentor Snoop Dogg that she had lost her mother. Snoop assured her that her mother is smiling down on her at all times. Pia has been very vulnerable with the viewers this season and proved time and time again that she deserves to be in The Voice finale.
“My mother represented and embodied love,” she said in the Knockouts. “So while I’m performing, I will be thinking about her.”
Last night, Pia performed Bob Marley and Lauryn Hill’s “Turn Your Lights Down Low” which left everyone speechless. She sang, rapped, and danced during this jam-packed performance. Now it’s up to America to cast their votes and save her in the competition.
