Noah Thompson Recalls Embarrassing Moment on ‘American Idol’

American Idol Season 20 winner Noah Thompson recently took to Instagram to recall an embarrassing moment from his time on the show. The story involves judge Katy Perry and her ex-boyfriend, singer John Mayer.

Noah Thompson Tells Embarrassing American Idol Story

Thompson told the story in a video posted to social media in which he can be seen sitting in his car. He said he wanted to talk about “the time that I embarrassed the sh*t out of Katy Perry, and I didn’t even realize it.”

Fans might remember the moment Thompson is talking about, which occurred during the Judges’ Song Contest on American Idol last year. Thompson performed “Heartbreak Warfare” by John Mayer and guessed that Perry had been the judge to choose the song for him.

“I remember I was sitting beside Nicolina,” Thompson said, referring to a fellow Season 20 contestant. “And when I told her I thought Katy Perry was the person that picked the song for me, she looked at me like, ‘Are you stupid?'”

When Thompson told Perry that he thought she chose the song, Perry joked that he should look her up on Wikipedia. The singer was unaware of the fact that Perry and Mayer used to date. In fact, Thompson still doesn’t have all the facts, because he wrongly stated in his new video that the pair was married.

The singer has also been teasing more new music on his social media. Last week, Thompson shared a snippet of a song called “Road That I Can’t Go Down.” He asked fans it they think he should release the track.
